Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from a counselling professional?
The counsellor should:
1. Value people, their dignity, integrity and fundamental rights and freedoms
2. Respect the personal beliefs of all people
3. Consider the interdependence between the physical, mental, psychological,
emotional, moral, social and spiritual aspects of each individual.
What questions can I ask without hesitation?
What diploma/degree do you have?
Which professional association do you belong to?
What is your counselling style?
What are your fees? When and how do I have to pay?
How do I know if I am compatible with a counsellor and his/her style?
You can assess compatibility in the first session, and decide if you want to continue. Although a little challenge may be beneficial, sometimes good and motivated people just don't match to work together. If you feel in any way uncomfortable, you should let the counsellor know what it is, and what would work for you better. Our counsellors are generally able to adapt their approach and style to the ever changing needs of the customers. Otherwise, they would happily refer you to someone else that may better serve your style and needs.
What if I can't pay?
We will give you a free 20 minute session to understand your need and explore solutions that work for you. Here are a few ways we may help you afford your therapy or self-development costs:
| If you need a considerably reduced fee, we may be able to match you with a group that
is already running or coming up soon. |
| If you can afford three regular sessions, and you are ready to continue working independently, we can let you continue with 15-30 minute mini-sessions. Our mini-session coaching program is also available to you after graduating from one of our groups. |
| We will apply a one-time $20 referral discount to your account for each new customer refered by you, when s/he has paid for the first regular session or for at least three group sessions. We only give one discount per each new referral. Such discounts may be banked for up to a year, and may be used together towards payment of a session or a group. If you bank the discounts for three successful referals, we will also discount the balance towards the cost of a regular session for you, or we will add a free group session to your account. |
| If you are willing to raise the money to pay for your therapy or self-development, we will give you some budgeting and fundraising ideas that you can use. |
| If none of our solutions work for you, or if we can't help with your specific situation, we will gladly make referals to other agencies that may be more affordable or government-funded (free). |
How are mini-sessions different from regular or group sessions?
Mini-sessions are meant to help a customer continue their personal development and/or healing through independent work. Consequently, in order to qualify for mini-sessions, a customer must have at least three regular sessions (or graduate one of our groups) in order to first develop a set of clear goals for personal development or therapy, and to master the necessary tools to work independently. Mini-sessions are only for mentoring and accountability purpose, and not for therapy. They are meant to increase your chance of following and ever improving the program you have initially developed with your counsellor, consultant or coach. Subsequently, that would extend and deepen your personal growth and/or healing. With appropriate scheduling, mini-session are very versatile: they may be done over the phone during your coffee or lunch break. That will greatly reduce your time and cost investment during personal development and/or therapy, and will make your life more manageable, enjoyable, and ... normal!
